Happiness Project: A New Page for Links

September 20, 2016 By Jodi

I'm recovering from a long weekend of hosting friends from out-of-country and a short trip to Åland, a group of Swedish-speaking Finnish islands (an archipelago!) that lie between Sweden and Finland. I'm also battling a cold while desperately trying to catch up with office work. I find it so much harder to recover and to catch up when I'm fatigued with pregnancy. I think the best solution right now is to nap the rest of the afternoon, don't you?

As my own happiness project continues, I've decided to put together a landing page of my favorite books, essays, and articles on happiness. Please check it out here, and be sure to send me anything you think I should add! I'll update it often, so check back regularly.

Winter in Sweden: the Basics

Fire outside cafe making for a cozy Swedish winter

It's time to talk about winter in Sweden. A while back I wrote about summer in Sweden, essentially saying that it's like heaven. And winter? Well, winter can feel like the opposite; or if not quite like hell, then rather like a long, slow slog uphill through waist-deep snow in the dark with clouds covering...

What's the Deal With Cutting the Cord?

March 16, 2017 By Jodi 3 Comments

Newborn baby holding parents' fingers

I'm curious—did you (or your partner, husband, baby's father, baby's other mother, etc.) cut the umbilical cord after you delivered the baby? It seems to be this momentous things that fathers (or one of the aforementioned others) are supposed to do. With all three of our children's births, James was handed the scissors at the appropriate time...
