Asking for Simple Support

November 22, 2016 By Jodi

Roofs of Chulmleigh on a cloudy day

I didn't mention that we've taken a quick trip to England. We booked tickets last Wednesday, then flew on Saturday! We're visiting my husbands parents in the county Devon, in the southwest. We head back to Sweden tomorrow. Yesterday we had a pint in a pub in Chulmleigh, the small town near my in-laws' place. I wanted to share gorgeous photos of the sweeping landscape, but it's been raining pretty much since we arrived and we've been tucked inside the whole time. I haven't taken my camera out of its case even once.

Now to the request.

Yesterday I wrote about trusting my audience, and today I wanted to turn that around, in a way, and ask you to support me. I've only been doing this blogging thing for a few months, and so far I'm loving it and the small community of friends and strangers being built in this space. It's something that I'd like to continue doing for as long as possible.

One of my long-term goals is to make some money from this blog, but only if I can do it in authentic way that fits in with the aesthetic of the site and my own voice (that is, no AdSense or banner ads, or sponsored posts from companies I'd never otherwise patronize). The only way I can ever do that—make some money—is by steadily growing my audience (ie. stats, on social networks like Facebook and Instagram, and visitors here to the blog) and building an engaged community.

That's where you come in. If you're on social media, please follow me on those sites (links below). If you're tempted to leave a comment on a post, do it. If you're going shopping an Amazon, considering doing it through a link on my site (like the SmartMax link in the middle of this page). If you have suggestions about content you'd like to see or want to say something about a post but would prefer to remain anonymous, send me an email.

Dear Sabrina on Facebook. I put every new post there within minutes of posting it here.

Me on Instagram.

Me on Pinterest.

You can also follow Dear Sabrina on Bloglovin'. Bloglovin' is a great place to find new blogs to follow, but I'll warn you up front that they send a LOT of emails, so I'd recommend immediately going into your profile and only signing up for the types of stories/blogs that you really want.

(Ashlee at Where My Heart Resides has a great post on how to support your favorite bloggers).

Another small, helpful thing you can do is share the posts that you like most. You can use the sharing buttons at the bottom of each post (currently available to share via Twitter, Facebook, and email). You can always just email a post to a friend, too. If you have suggestions for networks I'm not on, please let me know!

Thanks so much for reading Dear Sabrina, and I look forward to connecting with and hearing from you!

August in pink pants

Last Thursday, when I arrived at school to pick up the boys before the long weekend, Leif was wearing a hot pink skirt over his pants. They'd done some dress-up for Easter and he hadn't taken off the skirt yet. When I commented on it ("I love your pink skirt!"), he seemed pleased and proud, then continued to...

Introducing Sonia!

February 11, 2019 By Jodi Leave a Comment

Sonia_Ruyts_Intro

I have exciting news to share: I'm bringing a new, regular contributor on board here at Dear Sabrina! Sonia and I met when our kids were at the same preschool, and I instantly admired her style, thoughtfulness, humor, and the community she had created as a local business owner in our small town. After many...

Happy Second Birthday, Leif!

September 29, 2016 By Jodi Leave a Comment

leif-eating-blueberries

Today is Leif's second birthday. Tonight we are having a small gathering with neighbors and a couple friends, and this weekend we will spend a fun day doing things that Leif loves. He's still young enough that he doesn't seem to understand that it's his birthday, or what that means--but I'm sure he'll enjoy his ice-cream...

Do You Use the Oxford Comma?

December 20, 2016 By Jodi 4 Comments

German typewriter

I love grammar. In elementary school, I loved having English homework and doing all the exercises, paying attention to exactly where apostrophes and commas go and how, exactly, to use a semi-colon. (And I use too many of them, according to my search engine optimization plugin.) Which means, of course, that I love the Oxford comma.
