A Couple Swedish Singers to Love

October 20, 2016 By Jodi

Melissa Horn Swedish singers

While plenty of American music is played on the radio here in Sweden, there aren't enough Swedish songs on the radio in America (though Jose Gonzalez is half Swedish). Of course we all know ABBA, but there's a lot of great music being made in Sweden right now that you probably don't know about. Here are two Swedish singers I'm loving right now.

The first song, by Melissa Horn, is in Swedish, though it's one of those songs where the words don't really matter--just listen to the music and you know everything she's saying. It's called "Jag saknar dig mindre och mindre," which means "I miss you less and less." (I don't think she really does). Check out Melissa Horn's website here, where you can find more links to her music. You can find all her music on Spotify here.

The second is in English, so no explanations necessary. Read more about Amanda Nair here, and find her on Spotify here.

What are your top two songs right now? Let me know in the comments below if you enjoy hearing new songs here, and I'll do more Swedish music posts in the future.

I don't know if I have a "top two" right now, but I've been loving this one lately. https://open.spotify.com/track/3tkQWyvZNVftVFlEVvZ539

Moving Forward

Rays of light over Baltic Sea

I'm finding it incredibly difficult to sit down and work on a normal blog post today. (It wasn't even a possibility yesterday.) I feel like I have to address the elephant in the room (no pun intended). I am crushed and demoralized. I am looking for hope, and love, and community. I am inspired by several of my fellow...

The One Thing I Always Wish I'd Brought With Me On Vacation

Herbs, spices, vegetables, knives ready to cook

We're having a great time in Spain so far: it's been sunny, warm(ish), and we've spent our days walking, playing, and eating. This is EXACTLY what we came for. But there's one thing I forgot to bring that I'm kicking myself about...

What Do You Most Wish for Your Children?

Jodi with babies in lap

I was flipping through a local magazine for moms last week when I came across an interview with the cover mom, a local business owner. One of the questions, thrown unceremoniously into the middle of the interview, was, "Your biggest wish for your kids is..." Can you guess the answer?

Having Kids in Sweden: The Basics

This is the first in a series of posts outlining the general structure of life in Sweden for a family.  You've probably heard or read about the amazing parental leave policy in Sweden and wondered if it's true. It is. Maybe you also heard about the affordable universal daycare and wondered whether that's true, too. It is. And while these...
